Riyadh Airport Begins Terminal Reshuffle
Managed and operated by the Riyadh Airports Company (RAC), the King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh has started implementing the terminals transition project from Feb. 16 to Feb. 25. This is aimed at enhancing the overall travel experience and operational efficiency, besides improving passenger flow at the Saudi capital's main gateway, Gulf News reported.
This marks the largest operational transformation since the airport's establishment.
From Feb. 16, Terminals 1 and 2 of the airport have been serving international flights operated by national carriers. The airport's Terminal 4 is set to handle domestic flights of national carriers from Feb. 24.
Effective Feb. 25, Terminal 5 will be designated for all the international flights operated by foreign carriers. On the same day, Terminal 3 will be merged with Terminal 4 to serve domestic flights of national carriers. This will reduce waiting time for connecting flights.
The project is expected to increase the terminal capacity by 33%, from 42 million passengers last year to 56 million passengers by the end of 2026. Further, it is aimed at raising annual transit and connecting passenger capacity to 7.5 million.
Over 650 guides have been deployed to assist passengers before terminal entry. They will respond to inquiries and even provide on-site operational support.
Besides this, the airport has even started multiple facilitation measures, such as free parking for the first hour, complimentary taxi and Riyadh Metro transportation between terminals. It has increased the shuttle bus frequency to every four minutes.
Passengers have been asked to contact their airlines or use the airport's WhatsApp service to check flight details and assigned terminals before arriving at the airport.
