As per Drik Panchang, the auspicious occasion will be observed on Thursday, March 19, 2026. It will kickstart the Telugu Shaka Samvat 1948, the traditional Telugu calendar year.

Traditionally, Ugadi falls on the first day of Chaitra, which is the first month of the Hindu lunisolar calendar. Usually, it occurs in April, but this time it will be celebrated on Mar. 19.

The first day of Chaitra Navratri, which is a nine-day celebration that honours Goddess Durga's nine forms, is commemorated as Ugadi to mark the beginning of Lord Brahma's creation. Bhaskaracharya, a renowned Indian mathematician, had established Ugadi as the start of a new year, month, and day during the 12th century.
