IMD Issues Orange Alert For Heavy Rains In 13 States

The India Meteorological Department on Monday issued an orange alert for 13 states for the next few days. The alert has been issued in anticipation of thunderstorms accompanied by lightning, light to moderate rainfall, and gusty winds reaching speeds of70 km/h at isolated locations.

According to the IMD's forecast released on May 5, rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, hailstorms, and gusty winds is likely to continue over Northwest India for the next seven days and over Central India until May 7, with a decrease in intensity thereafter.

Heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds is likely over Gujarat and southwest Rajasthan during May 5–8 and over Uttarakhand during May 6–7.
