Nikita Bier, head of product at Elon Musk-owned X, recently shared a troubling experience on the platform. He said that he ate a piece of fried chicken that tore a part of his throat.
“Ate a piece of fried chicken tonight. It somehow tore part of my throat going down. Now I can barely swallow (or speak),” Bier posted on Wednesday.
While users sympathised with him, the post drew wider attention as he mentioned that his doctor recommended an endoscopy. However, the earliest available appointment was in four to six weeks. He described the situation as “Kafkaesque,” highlighting his frustration with facing delays in accessing medical care in the US.
“This feels like a Kafka novel,” Bier noted. The post has gained over 2.6 million views and over 3,000 comments.
Influencer Advices India Visit
One such response to the post from Indian influencer Arvind has gone viral. In the post, Arvind advised Bier to get himself checked in India.
“Fly to India, get scanned, diagnosed, treated/operated the same day. Fly back to the States. Will take 40 hours to and fro flying, 12 hrs for medicals. Cost is 1/100th. Less than two days to get treated,” Arvind's post read. With over 5.2 lakh views, has been widely shared on X as many users noted India's affordability in healthcare.
“This is exactly why medical tourism is booming. In the US, you wait weeks for an appointment… in India you're diagnosed and treated the same day for a fraction of the price,” a comment read.
Users Note India's Potential In Medical Tourism
Others echoed similar views, noting that India holds an advantage by positioning itself as a hub for medical tourism.
“The healthcare tourism sector in India has been a compelling investment theme for years, and stories like this show exactly why institutional money keeps flowing there,” another comment read.
Agreeing with the wider sentiment, another urged the government to boost medical infrastructure in India. “Haha! This is true. The Indian government should really enhance medical infrastructure more and more—we need it a lot. And with proper deals, India should start imposing tariffs on medical procedures for Americans,” his comment read.
On Bier's post, popular influencer Sagar, known as @Safarcasm on X, also reiterated the advice.
“In India, you can get an endoscopy inserted in all your openings in 4-6 hours at a fraction of the cost,” the influencer said. Bier has not yet reacted to the suggestions.
