Conduent Data Breach: US Tech Contractor Cites More Leaks Apart From 25 Million People Already Affected

Conduent, a US-based government tech contractor, reported that there 181,000 more people who were affected by the data breach that had affected 25 million people in the US on Tuesday.

This included personal information such as social security numbers and names. According to reports, 112,000 more victims who resided in New Hampshire were found to have had their data leaked. Conduent had reported 11,000 residents being affected in its first two letters to the New Hampshire Attorney General's office in October.

After four more letters regarding similar details, the total number from New Hampshire was tallied up to be 181,000 people.

Conduent is a business process outsourcing firm that provides services such as medical billing, toll transactions and processing prepaid cards for government programs. 

Some of the firm's major customers who were affected by the breach include Volvo Group North America, Premera Blue Cross, Blue Cross and Blue Shield and US government agencies such as the Wisconsin Department of Children and Families and the Wisconsin Child Support Trust Fund, reports stated.

The data breach started in October 2024 and was majorly neutralised by January 2025. Initially believed to have affected 10 million victims, reports on Feb. 10 confirmed that the actual number of people affected was closer to 25 million.

Safepay, a ransomware group, took responsibility for the attacks and stated that they had looted more than 8 terabytes of data across the time span that the hack had lasted.

Conduent confirmed in a filing with the Securities and Exchange Commision that its investigation into the data breach confirmed that the data sets contained a significant number of individuals' personal information associated with its clients' end-users.
