Apple has introduced the AirPods Max 2, an upgraded version of its popular over-ear headphones. The new model is powered by the H2 chip, introducing a range of smarter features.
In a new blog post, the US tech giant announced that AirPods Max 2 offers smart features such as adaptive audio, conversation awareness, improved active noise cancellation (ANC), better sound quality and live translation, making listening more intuitive.
The headphones also provide tools for creators, such as studio-quality audio recording and a camera remote. This makes it particularly useful for podcasters, musicians and video makers.

“With the incredible performance of H2, AirPods Max are upgraded with up to 1.5x more effective ANC for the ultimate all-day listening experience,” said Eric Treski, Apple's director of Audio Product Marketing. “The sound quality is remarkably clean, rich, and acoustically detailed - and when combined with capabilities like Personalised Spatial Audio, AirPods Max 2 deliver a profoundly immersive experience,” he added.
What's New?
Apple announced that AirPods Max 2 features an improved Active Noise Cancellation (ANC), up to 1.5 times more effective than before, reducing sounds like airplane engines and trains. The new H2-powered algorithms also enhance “transparency mode”, making it sound natural so that users can fully immerse themselves while enjoying music, calls or work.
Additionally, AirPods Max 2 delivers “high-fidelity audio” with a new high dynamic range amplifier. Apple has worked to also improve its spatial audio, offering precise instrument placement and richer bass.
AirPods Max 2 also supports 24-bit, 48 kHz lossless audio via the included USB-C cable. This allows musicians to create and mix in personalised spatial audio with head tracking, using apps like Logic Pro.
“Reduced wireless audio latency also makes gaming even better. For those using AirPods Max 2 and playing in Game Mode, iOS, macOS, and iPadOS games feel even more responsive and immersive,” Apple said.
Apple announced that AirPods Max 2 will be available to order starting March 25 at midnight. The headphones will come in Starlight, Orange, Purple and Blue colours.
