IPL 2026: The stage is set for the 19th edition of the Indian Premier League, T20 cricket's biggest annual carnival. The IPL 2026 will be held across multiple venues in India from March 28 to May. 31. The tournament will feature ten teams - Chennai Super Kings, Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Mumbai Indians, Sunrisers Hyderabad, Lucknow Super Giants, Rajasthan Royals, Kolkata Knight Riders, Gujarat Titans, Punjab Kings, and Delhi Capitals - battling for supremacy.

Over the years, the IPL has become one of the most anticipated events of the cricketing calendar. The cash-rich league is backed by India's leading billionaires and famous personalities, who act as team owners and play a massive role in the development of players. The league continues to uphold its motto, giving talent the opportunity.

The IPL began in 2008 as an unknown and ambitious commodity and immediately hit the headlines when its first-ever player auction was held and some of the world cricket's leading names went under the hammer. While the spotlight was on other star-studded teams, the Rajasthan Royals emerged as the champions with their inspiring skipper Shane Warne guiding a team of young Indian players to the title.

In 2009, the Indian Premier League had to shift to South Africa, and we witnessed another fairytale unfold as the previous season's wooden spooners, Deccan Chargers, lifted the trophy. The 2010 edition of the IPL also saw a first-time winner. This time, the honours went to the MS Dhoni-led Chennai Super Kings as the IPL returned to home shores. In the following season, CSK relived its glory moment by retaining the coveted crown and becoming the first IPL side to win twice.

The 2012 edition of the IPL saw the resurgence of the Kolkata Knight Riders. Playing a spirited brand of cricket under captain Gautam Gambhir, KKR denied CSK a third consecutive title in the final and gave their co-owner Shah Rukh Khan plenty to cheer about. Talking of resurgence, the Mumbai Indians pulled off the same in the 2013 season by defeating CSK in the final following a captaincy swap from Ricky Ponting to Rohit Sharma. The IPL 2014 had KKR reclaiming the prized silverware under Gambhir once again.

The 2015 season saw the Mumbai Indians cement their legacy by regaining the IPL title, once again beating their arch-rivals CSK in the final. In 2016, it was the time of the Sunrisers Hyderabad to beat the odds and deny the Royal Challengers Bengaluru their first title in the final. After missing out in 2016, the Mumbai Indians returned with a bang and registered their third title in 2017. MI also clinched the trophy in the 2019 and 2020 seasons of the IPL. All their titles came under Rohit's incredible captaincy tenure.

The 2018 season saw CSK return from a two-year exile with great success and another trophy under Dhoni's astute leadership. Dhoni also inspired his team's comeback from a poor 2020 campaign by taking them to the trophy in 2021. Gujarat Giants surprised everyone by winning the title in their very first season in the IPL back in 2022 under Hardik Pandya. The Giants nearly went two in two but got beaten in the final by Chennai Super Kings, who matched MI with their fifth IPL trophy in 2023.

After nine seasons, Kolkata Knight Riders finally regained the title under their new captain, Shreyas Iyer, in 2024. The following season had popular winners, the Royal Challengers Bengaluru, breaking an 18-year jinx to lift their maiden men's trophy, a moment of great joy and emotion for their former skipper Virat Kohli.
