Rajasthan Royals (RR) crushed Chennai Super Kings (CSK) by eight wickets to begin their 2026 season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) in convincing fashion. RR reached the small target of 128 in a mere 12.1 overs. Their innings was powered by a quickfire 52 off 17 balls by Vaibhah Sooryavanshi. It was the third quickest half-century in the history of the IPL.
Earlier, CSK got bowled out for 127 as Jofra Archer, Nandre Burger and Ravindra Jadeja claimed two wickets each. Chennai's innings was off to a poor start as the team was reduced to 57/6. The team was staring at the possibility of getting bowled out under 100, however Jamie Overtone's cameo of 43 off 36 balls pushed the team's score beyond 120.
Focus on Ravindra Jadeja and Sanju Samson
During the off season, the two teams were involved in a deal that saw all-rounders Jadeja and Sam Curran leave CSK and join RR and their long-time skipper Sanju Samson moved the other way to Chennai. So when the two teams took field in Guwhati, the focus was distinctively on Jadeja and Samson to see how they performed against their former teams.
While Samson's CSK debut did not go as planned as he got out for just six off seven balls, Jadeja's return to Rajasthan was fruitful as he picked two wickets.
