India Vs England Live Score, T20 World Cup 2026: Samson (89), Dube (43) Shine As IND Post Record WC Total At Wankhede

India smashed 19 sixes during the first innings at Wankhede. The most by a team in an innings in ICC Men's T20 World Cup history!

England openers Phil Salt and Jos Buttler walk out to open what will need to be record chase for England. 

India will open with pace as Arshdeep Singh is handed the new ball. 

Sanju Samson (89 off 42 balls) and Shivam Dube (43 off 25 balls) were the standout stars for India as they post a mammoth 253/7, the highest total in a World Cup knockout game and the second-highest total ever in the tournament. 

There were also valuable knocks from Ishan Kishan (39 off 18 balls), Hardik Pandya (27 off 12 balls) and Tilak Varma (21 off 7 balls) with Abhishek Sharma's form providing the only blot for India. 

England will have to pull off a record World Cup chase to progress to the Finals. 

England go with Will Jacks for the final over. The 1st delivery is dropped short and Axar slices it for a single. 

Hardik gets low and connects with a big swing on the 2nd delivery to send it flying into the stands over midwicket for SIX. Jacks responds with a full length floater outside off and Hardik carves it to point and this time denies the single. 

The 4th ball is full again and this time Hardik smashes it straight down the ground for SIX to bring up the 250 for India. RUN OUT! Hardik doesn't connect well with the slog on the 5th delivery and pushes for a second. The throw from Bethel is a good one and Hardik is caught short by Butter.

Varun Chakaravarthy walks out and is nutmegged by the final delivery but they run hard to grab 2 byes. 16 runs come off the over and India will be happy with that total. 

India 253/7 after 20 overs. 

Jofra Archer comes in for his final over and sees the 1st ball sent flying over midwicket for SIX by a belligerent Tilak Varma. 

Tilak swings at the next ball and misses. He then backs away and slices the next ball beautifully over deep backward point for SIX. Tilak isn't done yet as he whips the 4th ball over backward square leg for back-to-back SIXES. 

BOWLED! Archer has the last laugh as he sends down a searing pinpoint yorker on the 5th delivery and this time breaks the defences of Tilak to shatter the stumps.

Axar Patel walks out to bat and gets off the mark with a single. 20 runs and a wicket come off the over. 

India 237/6 after 19 overs. 

Curran comes in for his final over and Dube welcomes him with a pull to send the 1st ball flying over long-on for SIX. Dube gets thumped on the pads with the next ball and England push for a review. Replays confirm the impact on pads is left to the Umpire's Call and Dube survies. 

RUN OUT! Dube's luck runs out though as Hardik digs out a yorker to midwicket and calls for a single but reconsiders. It's too late though as Dube is halfway down the track and Harry Brook hits the wickets with a sharp throw despite having only one stump to aim at.

DROPPED! Hardik loses his bat as he swings at the next delivery sending it high towards long-on. Banton is the man who comes in from the deep and gets to the ball but sees it slip through his palms. 

Tilak Varma meanwhile gets off the mark with 2 runs and ends the over with a single to keep strike. 

India 217/5 after 18 overs.  

Overton starts with a full delivery outside off that Dube slices for a single. Hardik waits back and plays a late ramp on the 2nd delivery to send it flying over the keeper for FOUR. 

Both batters grab singles off the next two balls. Hardik has width on offer on the 5th delivery and he slaps it powerfully past mid-off for FOUR. He then reaches out and squeezes the last ball past deep backward point for back-to-back FOURs. 

15 runs come off the over as India reach the 200-run mark. 

India 205/4 after 17 overs.  

Rashid comes in for his final over and Dube welcomes him with a big slog to send the 1st ball flying over long-off for SIX. Suryakumar gets low and connects with a slog-sweep on the 3rd delivery to send it flying over midwicket for another SIX. 

STUMPED! Suryakumar skips out and then goes for the sweep but this time is beaten as the ball slips under the bat with Buttler whipping out the bails in double-quick time.

Curran returns to the attack and slips in a decent over for England. He starts with a full-toss that Dube whips over midwicket for 2 runs. 

Curran mixes up his lengths and pace as he gives away just 3 runs off the next 3 balls. The 5th ball is another slow delivery and this time Dube smacks it straight down the ground for FOUR. 10 runs come off the over, which England won't mind considering the pace that India have been setting. 

India 177/3 after 15 overs. 

CAUGHT! Will Jacks returns to the attack and immediately gets the breakthrough as Samson reaches out and goes for an inside-out drive but he connects with the toe-end of the bat and picks out the man at cover. It's an incredible knock once again from Samson, giving India a base to power to a big total.

Suryakumar Yadav walks out and whips the 2nd delivery high over midwicket for 2 runs. Jacks does well to give away just singles in the rest of the over. It's just the kind of over England needed as a big wicket and just 7 runs come off it. 

India 167/3 after 14 overs. 

England turn to Jofra Archer to find a way to contain India. He starts off well with a couple of dots to Dube who manages to drive the 3rd delivery to long-on for a single. 

Samson then lays down the gauntlet as he spots the slower delivery and slices it over cover for SIX. Archer bangs the next ball short but it slips wide down leg. Samson then backs away and lifts the next delivery over long-off for back-to-back SIXES. 

15 runs come off the over as India race past the 150-run mark. 

India 160/2 after 13 overs. 

Rashid continues his spell and Dube gives him a harsh welcome back as he clears his front foot and smokes the 1st delivery high over midwicket for SIX. 

It's not the only maximum in the over as Dube gets low on the 5th delivery and connects beautifully with a mighty swing to send it flying over long-on for another SIX. 15 runs come off the over as India are eyeing a big total at Wankhede. 

India 145/2 after 12 overs. 

England want to protect their spinners from Dube as they bring Overton back into the attack. He starts with a poor full delivery and is punished by Samson who thumps it over long-off for a flat SIX. 

Overton responds well by restricting the batters to just singles in the rest of the over. 11 runs come off it. 

India 130/2 after 11 overs. 

Adil Rashid comes back into the attack and manages to get the breakthrough. Kishan skips out on the 2nd delivery and punches it powerfully to long-off for FOUR. 

CAUGHT! Kishan skips out again and this time takes the aerial route but doesn't get enough on it. It's a quicker delivery from Rashid and Kishan can only find the man at long-off as England get the breakthrough.

India meanwhile show flexibility with their batting order as they respond to the situation and send out Shivam Dube. The hard-hitting all-rounder doesn't waste time as he launches the 4th delivery towards midwicket but finds the fielder who keeps them down to a single. 

Rashid ends the over with a single as just 7 runs and a wicket come off it. England need to build on this breakthrough and find a way to slow down India who are running away with it currently. 

India 119/2 after 10 overs.

How expensive is this mistake going to prove for England? 

Sam Curran comes back into the attack but again the bowling change backfires for the Three Lions. 

Kishan starts the onslaught as he skips down the track on the 2nd delivery and whips it over deep midwicket for SIX. Samson stands tall on the 4th delivery and pulls it over midwicket for another SIX. 

There's no respite for Curran as Samson slaps the next ball through cover for FOUR. Curran bangs the next ball short but it's wide outside off. He closes out the over with a slower full delivery that Samson drives for a single. 

Massive over for India as 20 runs come off it.

India 112/1 after 9 overs. 

England are looking to put the choke on India as they bring in spin from both ends with Liam Dawson entering the attack. The plot fails as Kishan slaps the 1st ball to long-off for 2 and then clips the next ball through midwicket for 2 more. Kishan drives the 3rd delivery to long-off for a single. 

Samson finally has strike and he skips out to launch Dawson over long-off for SIX that brings up his FIFTY! That's a 26-ball half-century for Samson. It's also back-to-back fifties for him in the tournament to follow up that unbeaten 97* against West Indies. 

Kishan isn't going to be left behind as he gets down on one knee and launches the last ball over midwicket for another SIX. 19 runs come off the over. 

India 92/1 after 8 overs. 

England bring out the big guns as soon as the field restrictions are lifted as Rashid enters the attack. Samson welcomes him with a crunching drive on the 1st delivery to send the ball racing through cover for FOUR. 

Rashid responds with a tossed up delivery that Samson blocks. Both batters can only take singles off the next two balls and Rashid closes out the over with two dots to Samson. 

It's a strong comeback from Rashid after getting hit on the 1st delivery. Just 6 runs come off the over. 

India 73/1 after 7 overs. 

Sam Curran comes into the attack for the final over of the powerplay. He starts off well with a full delivery that beats the edge as Samson looks to drive. Samson responds by lifting the 2nd ball over mid-on for a one-bounce FOUR. He then makes room and guides the next delivery past point for back-to-back FOURs. 

Samson cuts the next ball for a single. Curran bangs the next ball short but it's too high and called a wide. He restricts the batters to singles off the last two balls as 12 runs come off the over. 

India 67/1 after 6 overs. 

Change in bowling for the Three Lions as Jamie Overton comes in to replace Archer. He starts off with a couple of singles. 

The 3rd delivery is a bit too full down leg and Kishan flicks it brilliantly for FOUR. Overton responds with a wide slower delivery but Kishan reaches out to thump it past cover for back-to-back FOURs. 

Overton responds well with two dots to close out the over. 10 runs come off the over. 

India 55/1 after 5 overs. 

Jacks offers width on the 2nd delivery and Samson cuts it past the man at point for FOUR. Kishan gets low on the 4th delivery and he grabs his first FOUR with a well-executed sweep. 

It's a good over for India with 11 runs coming off it. Two more overs of the powerplay to go. 

India 45/1 after 4 overs. 

Samson picks up where he left off from as he pulls the 1st delivery from Archer over midwicket for FOUR. 

DROPPED! England should've had the wicket of the danger-man Samson but it's their captain who puts down a sitter. Samson drives it uppishly straight to mid-on and Brook gets both hands behind the ball but sees it pop out of his palms. That could prove to be a very expensive mistake by the England skipper. 

Samson celebrates by launching the 4th delivery high into the stands at Wankhede for SIX. Archer looks to end with a wide yorker but Samson eases it through the gap past short third and backward point for FOUR. 

14 runs come off the over. 

India 34/1 after 3 overs. 

Will Jacks enters the attack and is greeted by a fierce slice from Abhishek who sends it racing for FOUR. Jacks responds well with 3 dots in a row but Abhishek skips out on the 5th delivery and lifts it over mid-off for a one-bounce FOUR. 

CAUGHT! It's one shot too many for Abhishek as he skips down the track again and looks to go big over midwicket but doesn't get enough on it as the fielder takes an easy catch. Once again India's openers can't stitch together a sizeable partnership. 

8 runs and a wicket come off the over. 

India 20/1 after 2 overs.

Samson chops the 1st delivery to third man but is beaten on the next ball as he looks to cut but misses. He then rocks onto the back foot and slaps the 3rd delivery over mid-on for FOUR. 

Archer responds by banging it in shorter and this time Samson pulls it over square leg for SIX. He then grabs a single to rotate strike. Abhishek gets off the mark with a single. Strong start for India with 12 runs coming off it.

We're done with the national anthems and the Indian opening pair of Abhishek Sharma and Sanju Samson are making their way out to the middle greeted by a big roar erupts around the Wankhede Stadium. 

England will open the attack with pace as Jofra Archer is handed the new ball with Samson on strike. 

India's top order haven't fired in unison so far in the tournament. Abhishek Sharma started the tournament with three consecutive ducks and although he bounced back with a half-century against Zimbabwe, he's still waiting on a match-defining knock. 

Sanju Samson walked back into the side post that defeat against South Africa and he has looked like the missing piece for the Men in Blue. His unbeaten 97* against West Indies in a virtual 'knockout' signalled a shift in mindset and India will hope he replicates that form tonight. 

Ishan Kishan began the tournament in dominant fashion but has seen his form dip in recent games. India will be hoping tonight is the night that it all comes together for their top-order with a berth in the Final up for grabs. 

Pitch Report | Nasser Hussain and Ian Bishop: The wonderful Wankhede Stadium, the venue for this second semi-final, and it feels a little bit warmer in the middle than when we're here for the group stages. If you look at the weather forecast, 32 was the high. It's going to go down to 28 degrees, but also there's a lovely breeze down the ground - 15k - and that's hitting in the direction of the Tendulkar and Dilip Vengsarkar stands. We are pitch 7, which is right in the middle, and the ground dimension, 75 metres down the ground and equidistant on both sides, 65 metres and 65 metres. We're right in the middle. Wonderful amphitheatre.

What about the pitch and the surroundings? I think the battle really starts beyond the boundary with the sea of blue that's going to be here supporting India. England are going to have to quieten that. They've applied an anti-dew repellent onto this ground, so hopefully that keeps the dew away and keeps it quite, suppose, equal for both teams. The surface itself, it has spun more historically than any of the other pitches on this square or in this country. And that's about 2.3 degrees of turn. However, I'm not saying that's going to happen tonight because it feels a little bit harder. I've been told that they've cross-rolled it. There's a little bit more grass along here, so I'm crossing my fingers that it'll be a nice surface where the ball comes on.

Suryakumar Yadav (India Captain): We were looking to bat first. Semifinal, big game, and there's wind around too. Don't think there will be much dew. Looks a good one (the pitch). The best one. Credit to all the curators and groundsmen. Same team.

Harry Brook (England Captain): We're going to have a bowl. Looks like a good wicket, hopefully we can get off to a good start with the ball. They've obviously got a lot more experience on this ground than us. T20 cricket is such a fickle game, you never know what's going to happen. Hopefully we can keep them quiet (the crowd). Overton comes in for Rehan.

Harry Brook wins the Toss and declares that his team will prefer to chase today as they opt to bowl. 

India's path to the semis included a perfect group stage run before a sobering Super 8 loss to South Africa, a defeat that galvanised the host nation, drawing a swift response.

The return of Sanju Samson to the Playing XI may just be the greatest takeaway after that defeat. Samson almost single-handedly guided the team into the semifinal with an unbeaten 97 in a virtual knockout versus West Indies at the Eden Gardens.

England meanwhile arrive in strong form. They have lost only once in the tournament so far. Notably, that defeat came at the Wankhede Stadium against West Indies.

The Windies posted 196/6 and England managed just 166 in response. That match underlined England's vulnerability in the middle overs against spin, a phase India will be keen to exploit in the semifinal.

However, the Three Lions have remained unbeaten since that defeat, especially steamrolling their oppositions in the Super 8 stage, beating Pakistan, New Zealand and Sri Lanka in dominant fashion.

India arrived at the semifinal after a strong unbeaten run through the first group stage, only to suffer a heavy defeat to South Africa in their Super 8 opener. Suryakumar Yadav's team recovered well from that setback with back-to-back wins to secure safe passage into the semifinals. 

England, meanwhile, have emerged as one of the most dangerous sides in the competition. The Three Lions suffered just one defeat in the group stage and then bullied their way through the Super 8, winning all three of their ties. 

However, their only loss so far of the tournament came at this very venue where they now prepare to take on the hosts and defending champions India.
