New Zealand's Daryl Mitchell has become the no.1 batter in the ODIs, dethroning Virat Kohli a week after the Indian stalwart claimed the position after five years, according to the latest ICC rankings.

Mitchell climbed up one spot in the men's ODI batting rankings following a stellar display in the three-match ODI series against India which concluded last week. In the series, the 34-year-old hit back-to-back hundreds (131 not out in the second ODI and 137 in the third ODI), and was adjudged the Player of the Series.

He scored 352 runs in the three matches, which is the third-most number of runs scored by a batter in a three-match series.  New Zealand beat India 2-1 in the series.

Kohli himself had a good outing in the series as he notched scores of  93, 23 and 124. But these scores were not enough to retain the no.1 ranking spot. The Indian stalwart had claimed the no.1 spot, after five years, earlier this month.

Mitchell has become the no.1 batter in the ODIs for the second time in his career. He claimed the top spot last November but he could stay there only for three days as he was displaced by Rohit Sharma.

Rohit did not have a good run in the series as he failed to cross the 30-run mark in each of the three innings he played. This saw his ranking plummet by one spot. The former Indian captain is now ranked fourth behind Afghanistan's Ibrahim Zadran.

Gill has managed to hold onto the fifth place on the list. Mitchell will now be seen in action in the five-match T20I series against the Men in Blue. The all-rounder has played 59 ODIs and amassed 2,690 runs. He averages 58.47and has a strike rate of  95.72.
