Vodafone Idea reported a consolidated net loss of Rs 3,754 crore for the first quarter of fiscal 2027, reversing the exceptional profit recorded in the previous quarter, while revenue and Ebitda registered modest sequential growth.

The telecom operator's net loss stood at Rs 3,754 crore in quarter ended June, compared with a profit of Rs 51,970 crore in the preceding quarter. The sharp swing in profitability was primarily due to a significant reduction in one-time gains.

Vodafone Idea recorded a one-time gain of Rs 1,611 crore during the quarter, compared with Rs 57,491 crore in fourth quarter of the previous fiscal. The exceptionally high one-time gain in the previous quarter had boosted reported profitability, making the sequential comparison appear significantly weaker.

Revenue increased 3.2% quarter-on-quarter to Rs 11,689 crore from Rs 11,332 crore in quarter ended March. The company's operating performance also improved, with Ebitda rising 3% sequentially to Rs 5,034 crore from Rs 4,889 crore.

However, the Ebitda margin remained broadly stable at 43.06%, compared with 43.14% in the preceding quarter. The marginal contraction indicates that the increase in revenue translated into a broadly proportional improvement in operating profit.

Vodafone Idea ARPU Improves

Vodafone Idea's average revenue per user (ARPU) increased to Rs 195 in first quarter of this fiscal from Rs 190 in the preceding quarter, indicating an improvement in monetisation. The company's blended ARPU also increased sequentially to Rs 177 from Rs 174.

The improvement in ARPU comes as telecom operators continue to focus on increasing customer monetisation and improving the quality of their subscriber base.

Vodafone Idea's 4G/5G subscriber base increased to 13.01 crore in quarter ended June from 12.89 crore in the previous quarter.

The increase in the higher-value 4G and 5G subscriber base, coupled with the improvement in ARPU, provides a positive signal for the company's underlying operating performance.
