Metal and mining names dominated the largecap list. Hindustan Zinc's profit rose 145% YoY to Rs 5,500 crore, and Vedanta's climbed 152% to Rs 5,300 crore, both aided by firmer metal prices during the quarter. JSW Steel's profit nearly doubled, up 96% YoY.

Among energy names, GAIL (India) reported a 128% jump in profit to Rs 4,300 crore. Reliance Industries, the country's most valued company, posted more modest 16% growth to Rs 20,900 crore.

Q1FY27 Midcaps

Among midcaps, state-owned Oil India's profit more than doubled, up 156% YoY to Rs 2,900 crore, while Steel Authority of India (SAIL) posted a 247% jump to Rs 2,000 crore on the back of firmer steel prices.

Lloyds Metals' profit climbed 169% YoY, and National Aluminium Company's rose 91%, both riding the same metals tailwind that lifted their largecap peers. BHEL swung from a loss a year earlier to a profit of Rs 400 crore.

In financials, IDFC First Bank's profit more than doubled, up 132% YoY to Rs 1,100 crore, Oracle Financial Services' rose 121% to Rs 1,400 crore, Bank of India's climbed 50% to Rs 3,300 crore, and Bank of Maharashtra's grew 34% to Rs 2,000 crore.

Vodafone Idea remained the outlier, posting a loss of Rs 5,400 crore for the quarter even as the telecom sector overall returned to healthier profit, aided by narrower losses at the carrier.

Q1FY27 Smallcaps

Smallcaps threw up the sharpest swings in the numbers. Credit Access Grameen's profit surged 720% YoY to Rs 500 crore, the steepest jump across all three market-cap categories, while DCM Shriram's profit rose 445% and Manappuram Finance's climbed 341%.

IIFL Finance's profit rose 189% YoY, and JP Power Ventures' climbed 138%. In shipping and logistics, Welspun Corp's profit rose 199% YoY and GE Shipping Company's rose 159%.

Indian Overseas Bank (IOB) posted a 46% rise in profit to Rs 1,700 crore. Chennai Petroleum Corporation (CPCL) and Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals (MRPL), both public-sector refiners, swung from losses a year earlier into profit during the quarter.
