US Markets Recap

US stocks rose on Friday as investors attempted to stabilise after a sharp sell-off in the previous session, with easing Treasury yields, a pullback in oil prices and stronger-than-expected labour-market data supporting sentiment.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 273.48 points, or 0.52%. The S&P 500 climbed 32.90 points, or 0.43%, while the Nasdaq Composite advanced 82.19 points, or 0.32%.

Indian equity benchmarks extended declines for the second consecutive week. Both the NSE Nifty 50 and the BSE Sensex declined 0.7% each during the week.

On Friday, The Nifty 50 settled 20.15 points, or 0.08%, higher at 24,252, recovering from its provisional level of 24,234.75. The Sensex ended 3.11 points higher at 77,540.83, reversing a provisional loss of 15.25 points.

  • Shivalik Bimetal Controls: Granted an Rs 11 crore unsecured loan to wholly owned subsidiary Shivalik Engineered Products for working capital and term loan repayment.
  • Spandana Sphoorty: Announced a first and final call of Rs 115 per share on 1.73 crore partly paid-up rights shares, completing the rights issue.

  • Premiere Explosives: SEBI permitted Apollo Micro Systems' open offer for 1.39 crore shares at Rs 698 per share following CCI approval.
  • Power Grid Corporation of India: Declared successful bidder for a Gujarat renewable energy transmission project under TBCB and received the LoI for the BOOT project, with a discovered tariff of Rs 822.91 crore per annum.
  • Cholamandalam Investment & Finance: Allotted Rs 350 crore in secured NCDs through NSE EBP at an 8.64% coupon.
  • Edelweiss Financial Services: IRDAI issued a warning to subsidiary Edelweiss Life Insurance for FY25 EOM regulation non-compliance and barred it from opening new branches for six months. The company said there would be no material financial or operational impact.
  • Nazara Technologies: Invested Rs 8 crore in subsidiary Funky Monkeys through a primary share subscription, increasing its stake to 64% from 60%.
  • Apollo Micro Systems: SEBI permitted the Premiere Explosives open offer process to commence within 12 working days of CCI approval. The offer is for up to 26% stake, or 1.40 crore shares, at Rs 698 per share.
  • EMS – Promoter Ramveer Singh released pledge on 4.3 lakh shares after repaying a Rs 8.9 crore Tata Capital loan. Pledged shares reduced to 80.64 lakh shares (14.52% of equity) from 84.94 lakh shares (15.29%).

  • Coromandel International – Jammu GST appellate order confirms Rs 1.23 crore tax and Rs 12.35 lakh penalty for FY19. Company will appeal.

  • Baazar Style Retail – Promoter Rajendra Kumar Gupta HUF sold 1.5 lakh shares on August 19-20, reducing stake to 3.41%.

  • Cyient – NCLT dissolved Infotech HAL Limited, Cyient's 50:50 JV, on August 17 following liquidation.

  • Edelweiss – IRDAI directed Edelweiss Life Insurance not to open new places of business for six months from the date of the order due to non-compliance with provisions related to expenses of management, including insurers' commissions.

  • Ravindra Energy – Promoters created a pledge on 21.7 lakh shares.

  • Zee Entertainment – Company allotted 20.9 crore fully convertible warrants at Rs 126 each to the promoter group. Received 25% of the total Rs 660 crore upfront. Warrants will be convertible into shares within 18 months, increasing the promoter group's stake to 17.9% post conversion.

  • Innova Captab – Board approved brownfield expansion of its manufacturing facility in Baddi, Himachal Pradesh, at a cost of Rs 45 crore.

  • B.R. Goyal Infrastructure – Won a Rs 151 crore order from NHAI for the engagement of a user fee agency through e-tender for Jajau Fee Plaza in Madhya Pradesh.

  • Tega Industries – Board approved preferential issue of shares worth Rs 95.4 crore to AP Jupiter Holdings, an Apollo Global entity. Shares to be issued at Rs 1,994 each, a 14% premium to CMP.

  • ICICI Prudential – Received an order upholding a tax demand of Rs 365 crore. Company will file an appeal before the appropriate appellate authority.

  • NTPC Green – Secured 500 MW contracted capacity at a discovered tariff of Rs 6/kWh.

  • GHCL – National Green Tribunal, Pune dismissed all three appeals challenging the environmental and forest clearances for the company's greenfield soda ash project.

  • Kaynes – Signed an MoU with BOSGAME to build a computing presence in India. BOSGAME focuses on intelligent computing products, including mini PCs and laptops.

  • Diamond Power – Won a Rs 52.9 crore order from Aurionpro Solutions to supply HT and LT electrical cables for a hyperscale data centre campus in Hyderabad.

  • Acutaas Chemical – Board approved Rs 212 crore capex for establishing a greenfield/brownfield manufacturing plant in Gujarat for new electronic-grade chemicals.

  • Sayaji Hotel – FSSAI inspected Sayaji Hotel, Indore, on August 20. The Office of Food Safety Administration, Indore, issued an order partially suspending the FSSAI licence of the unit.

  • Sigachi Industries – Board approved a Rs 290.4 crore fundraise through the issue of 11 crore warrants to promoters and other investors at Rs 26.4 each, a 12.3% discount to CMP.

  • Jubilant Pharmova – USFDA approved commercial batch manufacturing of the first product on Line 3 of Jubilant HollisterStier's contract manufacturing facility in the US.

  • Ceinsys Tech – Value of an earlier order reduced by Rs 112 crore after the sanctioned amount under the scheme was exhausted. Pending order book now stands at Rs 856 crore.

  • Urban Company – Sued Kent RO in the Delhi High Court for allegedly defaming and disparaging its NATIVE water purifiers through advertisements calling its two-year filter/service-life claims a “marketing gimmick” and “unsafe”. Kent told the court it would remove the disputed advertisements within 15 days of August 12 and refrain from making similar claims. Other patent and tortious-interference cases between the companies remain pending.
