Good morning!

US Market Wrap

Stocks churned and bond yields rose in the final stretch of a busy week for markets, with investors also contending with a large options expiration that drove a surge in trading volume. After a brief pause in the Treasury selloff, 10-year yields hit 5% on bets that oil near $100 could stoke inflation and prompt Federal Reserve rate hikes.

The S&P 500 edged up 0.2% as of 4 p.m. New York time even as most of its components fell, buoyed by a rally in chipmakers, while the tech-heavy Nasdaq 100 rose 0.7% and the Dow Jones Industrial Average slipped 0.2%.Bitcoin topped $81,000, according to Bloomberg.

Asian Market Wrap

Asian equities and Wall Street stock-index futures rose after the US called trade talks with China "very successful" ahead of this week's summit between Presidents Donald Trump and Xi Jinping. MSCI's Asia Pacific gauge climbed 0.7%, led by tech shares, with benchmarks in South Korea and Taiwan pacing gains.

Lower energy prices eased inflation concerns and lifted Treasury futures, with cash trading closed during Asian hours for a holiday in Japan. Elsewhere, the yen firmed slightly to around 156.60 per dollar after sliding more than 2% last week.

Commodity Check

Gold steadied as traders weighed persistent inflation risks and the path for interest rates following the Federal Reserve's first hike since 2023. Bullion held around $4,375 an ounce after posting a modest gain last week. Spot gold was little changed at $4,378.10 at 9:25 a.m. in Singapore, while silver rose 0.8% to $66.79 and platinum and palladium edged higher.

Oil fell for a fourth day, on track for its longest losing streak since June, as traders tracked diplomatic efforts to end the US-Iran conflict and signs that cargoes were still moving through the Strait of Hormuz. Brent dropped toward $101 a barrel, with West Texas Intermediate below $98.
