Ranbir Kapoor Begins 'Ramayana' Part 2 Shoot, First Instalment Slated For Diwali Release

Actor Ranbir Kapoor has started shooting for director Nitesh Tiwari's mythological epic 'Ramayana' Part 2. The first instalment is scheduled for a Diwali 2026 release.

According to sources close to the project, Kapoor has started filming his scenes for the sequel in Mumbai.

The schedule will focus on the storyline after Sita's abduction and will show Lord Ram's journey toward Lanka. Actor Sunny Deol, who plays Lord Hanuman in the film, is expected to join the shoot over the weekend.

Sharing details about the schedule, a source said, “It is an almost two-month schedule with some really heavy-duty action and drama planned. The story is moving to Lord Ram's journey toward Lanka, and the filmmakers have already built lavish sets. There are also a lot of scenes between Lord Ram and Lord Hanuman, and the two actors will be filming those.”

Apart from Kapoor and Deol, the film also stars Sai Pallavi as Sita, Ravie Dubey as Lakshman, and Yash in the role of Ravana.

Meanwhile, Deol is currently busy shooting another film produced by Excel Entertainment and directed by A. R. Murugadoss. Ranbir Kapoor had also been working on 'Love & War', directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali, alongside Alia Bhatt and Vicky Kaushal.

Earlier this week, a rough cut of 'Ramayana: Part 1' was shown to a small audience in Los Angeles at the Cinemark Playa Vista.

According to reports, the early reactions were very positive, with viewers praising the film's scale, visual effects and storytelling. The version shown was only a first cut meant for testing, not the final version. The makers are expected to make changes based on the feedback.

Producer Namit Malhotra has reportedly invested around Rs 4,000 crore in the project and aims to make it one of the biggest films made in India. He has also promised a global-level cinematic experience, with the film being specially shot for IMAX screens.
