The Delhi High Court on Thursday issued a stern warning to Rajpal Yadav in connection with a Rs 9 crore debt and cheque bounce case.

After failing to comply with the settlement efforts, the Delhi High Court has reserved its order in the long-standing case.

During the proceedings, the Court said, "Never think the judge is weak if the judge is nice to you."

Moreover, following the stern warning regarding the remarks by Rajpal Yadav and his counsel, the Court mentioned, "You are saying you are willing to pay, but your lawyers are saying that since you have already gone to jail, you will not pay. If you are willing to pay, then why am I hearing the matter? Make the payment," reported Bar and Bench.

To move things forward with negotiations, the court had offered a Rs 3 crore payment within a fixed time. However, despite this, no agreement was reached.

To settle the dispute, Rajpal Yadav asked for 30 days; however, Justice Swarana Kanta Sharma rejected it and said, "No means no. I will reserve (for judgment). I will not give more time."

Arguing about the acceptance of conviction by Rajpal Yadav, Advocate Avneet Singh Sikka, the complainant-company's counsel said, "The counsel yesterday said that 'since I was given maximum punishment, I cannot be asked to pay. Answer lies in CPC. Not enough reason to extinguish liability, that punishment is complete. They say that because a consent decree was passed, the third supplementary's agreement was subsumed. It is their own admission that they have not paid ₹10 crores," the report added.

After repeated efforts, the court brought both parties to an agreement of Rs 6 crore as the final settlement. However, appearing through a video conference, a visibly distraught Rajpal Yadav was seen talking about his financial struggles as he had to sell five flats.

The legal dispute is centered on a loan taken from M/s Murali Projects Pvt Ltd. in 2010. The loan, which was taken as Rs 5 crore, eventually rose to Rs 9 crore, including interest and penalties, following failed promises. In 2024, the actor was sentenced to six months of imprisonment for the cheque bounce. However, after assuring to settle the case, Yadav's sentence was suspended.

With time, it was then noticed that the actor failed to pay the assured amount and was asked to surrender. Rajpal Yadav surrendered on February 5, but was granted an interim suspension till March 18 as Rs 1.5 crore was deposited into the bank accounts of the complainant.
