Chandrapuram Ponnusamy Radhakrishnan was elected on Tuesday as the 15th vice president of India, the third leader from Tamil Nadu to occupy the coveted post, with a total of 452 votes in his favour
Counting of votes began for the vice presidential poll on Tuesday, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi the first to cast his vote. The poll witnessed a direct contest between ruling NDA nominee C P Radhakrishnan and joint opposition candidate B Sudershan Reddy, with the BJP-led alliance having a clear edge in the poll necessitated due to the sudden resignation of Jagdeep Dhankhar.

The voters constitute of all elected member of parliaments. The MPs will cast their vote through a secret ballot, meaning each can vote as they wish and not along party lines.
