Reason behind publishing this list

According to the UGC Act of 1956, only those universities that have been established by a Parliamentary Act or state legislation, or those recognised as "deemed to be university" under Section 3 of the Act, possess the legitimate authority to confer degrees. Any institution functioning beyond this legal structure lacks the power to issue accredited qualifications, no matter its title or marketing.

Degrees conferred by institutions on the fraudulent list are not valid for government employment, admission to higher education, or any other official acknowledgment.

The Commission has reached out to the higher education departments and chief secretaries of the relevant state governments, encouraging them to take suitable legal measures.
