Earlier in the day, Singh, the MLA from Amritsar North, announced his resignation from the Punjab Assembly, saying he had submitted his resignation to Speaker Kultar Singh Sandhwan. He made the announcement through a Facebook post.
Singh was joined by fellow AAP legislators Chetan Singh Jouramajra and Harmeet Singh Pathanmajra at the BJP headquarters in New Delhi, where they were formally inducted into the party in the presence of senior BJP leaders.
The development came a day after Jouramajra, MLA from Samana, and Pathanmajra, MLA from Sanour in Patiala district, quit the AAP.
Welcoming the three leaders into the party, BJP national general secretary and Punjab in-charge Satish Poonia said their political, social and administrative experience would strengthen the BJP's prospects in Punjab. He claimed there was growing anti-incumbency against the ruling AAP and described the drug menace as the state's biggest challenge.
According to Poonia, issues such as drug abuse, corruption and crime have worsened under the AAP government despite its promises to curb narcotics trafficking. He reiterated the BJP's commitment to tackling the problem and restoring Punjab's growth.
Addressing the press conference, Kunwar Vijay Pratap Singh said the BJP, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, was best placed to bring peace and prosperity back to Punjab.
"My five-year internship in AAP has ended today, and I am formally joining the BJP," he said, adding that the three leaders would work towards the state's development and fulfil any responsibilities assigned to them.
Punjab BJP chief Kewal Singh Dhillon welcomed the trio and said the party's support base in the state was expanding steadily, asserting that the time had come for the AAP to exit power.
