In a major consumer-centric move, the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) has issued strict directives to cab aggregators on the use of the tip feature on their apps.
Under the new directions, passengers cannot be prompted or pressured to tip while booking a cab. Aggregators have been directed to ensure that any tipping option is presented only after the ride is completed and remains entirely voluntary.

The ministry has also made it clear that the entire tip amount must go to the driver. Aggregators cannot deduct any portion of the tip as a fee, commission or under any other charge.
The move is aimed at ensuring that passengers are not subjected to upfront or pre-ride tipping prompts and that drivers receive the full amount voluntarily offered by customers.

MoRTH has directed cab aggregators to immediately review their apps and modify the relevant features to ensure compliance with the latest directives.
