Mumbai, Thane, Raigad On Yellow Alert Till 1 AM, Says IMD

The IMD has extended its yellow alert on Mumbai and its neighbouring districts till 01:00 a.m. on Tuesday.

A Yellow alert has been issued for rainfall with thunderstorms-lightning in Vidarbha districts on Sep 16-17, alongside several areas in the region.

The India Meteorological Department has now issued a yellow alert for Mumbai and its neighbouring districts till 10:00 p.m.

Rain lashed parts of Himachal Pradesh on Monday while some areas witnessed thunderstorms as 493 roads, including three national highways, remained closed for traffic.

Mumbai City, Suburba, Thane, and Palghar districts all continue to stay under orange alert till 4.p.m.

"Traffic Movement Is Slow At Galleria Circle Hiranandani Sakinaka South Bound Due To BEST Bus Breakdown," Mumbai Traffic Police said in a post on X.

In a social media post on X, Air India said, "Persistent rain may impact flights to and from Mumbai today. Please check your flight status here https://airindia.com/in/en/manage/flight-status.html and allow extra time for your journey to the airport, as traffic may be slower than usual."

Following heavy rains in Mumbai, IndiGo issued an advisory on social media platform X and said, “It is a rain-soaked day in mumbai, and several roads leading to the airport are reporting delays due to heavy downpour. Please plan your journey with care and leave early if you are scheduled to travel today."

Post 1:00 p.m. the India Meteorological Department changed its alert to Organe from Red for Mumbai City and Mumbai Suburban till 4:00 p.m.

Skymet predicts that intermittent rains are expected to persist over Mumbai and its suburbs until the end of September.

Skymet predicts intermittent rains over next 2-3 days. "The intensity will go down from tomorrow onwards. But, moderate showers with isolated showers cannot be ruled out," Mahesh Palawat, Skymet Weather Services told NDTV Profit.

"Rain intensity will reduce by afternoon and evening hours, and their might be heavy spells at night," he said.

Skymet predicts that, today, there may be intense to very intense showers, which may cause further waterlogging.

The next 2-3 hours are really crucial, as intensity may increase in some areas, said Mahesh Palawat, Skymet Weather Services Ltd.

Three digit rainfall is being recorded so far in Mumbai and Suburbs, he told NDTV Profit.

Air India has issued passenger advisory amidst heavy rains in Mumbai on Monday.

Overnight rains triggered widespread waterlogging across the city on Monday morning, disrupting peak-hour traffic for office commuters.

Mumbai Rains posted on social media platform X and said, "Rains have decreased in Mumbai except Northern suburbs. Borivali, Kandivali, Malad will continue to get rains next 1 more hour. South Mumbai, Navi Mumbai noticed good reduction in rains. Yet more thunderstorms to come in the later half of the day 11:30 a.m."

ANI in a post on X, citing CPRO, Central Railways said, "Due to heavy rains since last night, local trains are delayed by 10 minutes on the main line and the harbour line of the Central Railway. There is water accumulation at some spots, but trains are still running with all precautions"

As the city grapples with heavy rains on Monday, a user on social media platform X posted a video of heavy lighting.

Mumbai Rains boost water level in seven lakes supplying drinking water to the city, BMC wrote in a social media post on X.

Mumbai Nowcast in a post on X said, "Heaviest of the Rains to cover entire South & Central Mumbai. Very Intense Rains next 1 hour will lead to Waterlogging situation."

On social media paltform X, Mumbai Nowcast posted, "Central Mumbai-Andheri-Juhu-Powai Belt about to get fresh spell of HEAVY RAINS. South Mumbai too should get Heavy Rains shortly"

In a social media post on X, Mumbai Rains page wrote, "One huge thunderstorm is heading towards South Mumbai. Heavy rains expected over Dadar, Chembur, Kurla, Sion, Ghatkopar, Worli, South Mumbai, Navi Mumbai"

One user on social media plaform X said, "local train running 10 min late"

Mumbai continues to see heavy rainfall on Monday and a monorail came to halt in the Wadala area due to technical glitches.

As heavy rains continued to lash the city on Monday, most parts of the city observed waterlogging, NDTV reported.

Mumbai city's Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus saw light to moderate rains on Monday morning.

Mumabi's Sion saw heavy downpour post midnight and early Monday morning.

One user on social media platform X, posted a video of a railway track and said, "Heavy rain in parts of Mumbai, visuals from Kurla."

In a social media post on X, Mumbai Rains posted and said, "These are POWERFUL thunderstorms which will give heavy downpours in less time & may cause waterlogging in low lying areas overnight. Rains to stay on peak next 24-36 hours as expected."
