Jharkhand BJP president Aditya Sahu said on Thursday that the party held a series of programmes across the state to mark Prime Minister Narendra Modi's birthday.
The Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha organised a blood donation camp at the BJP headquarters in Ranchi in the morning. An ‘Ashirwad Ka Diya' programme was held later in the evening, Sahu said.
As part of the initiative, people lit earthen lamps at their homes, with a focus on households of government scheme beneficiaries, as well as at temples and other public places.
Sahu lit lamps at his native village of Kuchu in Ranchi district's Ormanjhi block. Leader of Opposition Babulal Marandi also participated in the programme, lighting lamps at Albert Ekka Chowk in Ranchi.
According to Sahu, the celebrations will continue until October 17 as part of a month-long nationwide programme marking Modi's 25 years in public life.
Calling the occasion significant, Sahu said people were celebrating Vishwakarma Puja alongside Modi's birthday. He added that the blood donation drive launched on Thursday would continue for three days at different locations across Jharkhand.
Sahu also said people across the country were lighting diyas at their homes and praying for Modi's long and healthy life.
Marandi highlighted Modi's 25 years in public life, including his tenure as Gujarat chief minister and his time as prime minister.
He credited Modi's government with decisions including the abrogation of Article 370, the construction of the Ram Temple in Ayodhya and the criminalisation of triple talaq. Marandi also claimed that terrorism and left-wing extremism had been eliminated from the country during Modi's tenure.
Separately, Union Minister of State for Defence Sanjay Seth distributed 1,391 assistive devices worth around Rs 38 lakh to persons with disabilities at an event in Ranchi organised by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment to mark Modi's birthday.
