The Central Board of Direct Taxes on Thursday has launched a major digital push to simplify income tax compliance, introducing a nationwide outreach campaign PRARAMBH and an AI-powered platform 'Kar Sathi' as part of the rollout of the new Income Tax Act, 2025. The initiative aims to make tax filing more accessible, transparent, and user-friendly for millions of taxpayers, officials said.
According to the finance ministry, the outreach drive will run across print, radio, television, outdoor, digital and social media, with the goal of helping taxpayers understand the key features of the new law before it takes effect.
What is PRARAMBH?
PRARAMBH 2026 is a nationwide awareness and facilitation campaign designed to ensure a smooth transition to the new tax regime, which came into effect on April 1, 2026. The programme focuses on educating taxpayers about updated rules, forms, and compliance requirements.
At the launch event in New Delhi, CBDT Chairman Ravi Agrawal said PRARAMBH stands for “Policy Reform and Responsible Action for Mission Viksit Bharat.”
He said the campaign is built around a “citizen-first” approach, aiming to reduce confusion and disputes while encouraging voluntary compliance. It includes multimedia outreach, workshops, and simplified educational material to help taxpayers better understand the new law.
A key highlight of the reform is the simplification of tax processes. The number of rules has been reduced significantly, while forms have been cut by nearly half, moves expected to ease compliance for millions and eliminate requirements for a large volume of transactions, officials said.

Kar Saathi AI: A 24x7 Tax Assistant
At the centre of this digital transformation is “Kar Saathi”, an AI-powered chatbot integrated into the income tax website. The tool is designed to provide real-time assistance to taxpayers, answering queries related to the new law, forms, and filing procedures.
The chatbot will be available round-the-clock and aims to reduce dependency on tax officials by offering instant, automated support. It also provides guidance based on updated rules, making it particularly useful during filing season.
In addition, thousands of FAQs and guidance notes have been prepared to support users, ensuring that even complex provisions are explained in a simplified manner.

The rollout also includes Income Tax Website 2.0, which the ministry says has been built for better usability, simpler navigation and more efficient service delivery. The campaign package includes guidance notes, tutorial videos, brochures, a MyGov Quiz, and brochures in 10 regional languages in addition to English and Hindi.
Revenue Secretary Arvind Shrivastava said the outreach will include over 300 workshops and is meant to be a two-way process that also gathers stakeholder feedback.
