Hyderabad Shocker: Retired IPS Officer's Wife Found Murdered In Jubilee Hills Home, Domestic Help Missing

Police suspect a domestic helper and associates in the murder of Tanuja Ranjan, wife of retired IPS officer Vinay Ranjan Ray, at the family's Hyderabad residence.

The killing of Tanuja Ranjan in Hyderabad has raised fresh concerns over crimes involving recently hired domestic workers.

The wife of a former IPS officer, retired Director General of Police, Vinay Ranjan Ray, was found dead at their home, in the Posh Jubilee Hills neighbourhood of Hyderabad, on Friday morning.

As per the initial reports, the police believe that the murder was committed by the family's recently-hired domestic helper from Nepal and her associates.

Tanuja Ranjan (55), also known as Sunanda, was allegedly smothered by the accused, who then fled the residence with valuables, as per police.

The incident occurred in the Prashasan Nagar, a high-security area housing various senior officers' quarters, on the first floor of the family's three-storey home.

According to reports, Vinay Ranjan Ray was not in the city at the time of the occurrence. To supervise the inquiry, senior authorities visited the incident scene, including Hyderabad Police Commissioner VC Sajjanar and Telangana DGP CV Anand.

Additionally, a forensic team examined the area and gathered evidence while the police registered a murder case.

Meanwhile, special teams have been constituted to nab the suspects.

In the backdrop of this incident, Hyderabad Police Commissioner VC Sajjanar issued a public advisory advising people to undergo extensive background checks and police verification before employing domestic helpers.

Last month, in a similar incident, Rahul Meena, a 19-year-old former domestic helper, was taken into custody after he brutally raped and killed the daughter of a Delhi IRS officer, aged 22, in South Delhi. Since he had previously worked there, the suspect was familiar with the layout of the house.

These incidents demonstrate a growing tendency of violence involving recently hired or previous domestic workers, which is frequently motivated by financial factors, such as debts and other financial strains.
