Bengaluru Shocker: Ex-ISRO Employee Kills Wife Using Towel, 'Wanted To Take His Own' Life Too

In a shocking incident reported from Bengaluru, a 65-year-old retired Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) employee allegedly strangled his wife to death with a towel at their residence on Wednesday, police said. According to PTI, the incident was reported at around 11 a.m. under the Avalahalli police station limits.

The accused, Nageshwar Rao, has been taken into police custody, the news agency reported. Citing the preliminary investigation, a senior police officer said Rao was reportedly undergoing treatment for depression. Rao allegedly wanted to end his life after killing his wife, police added.

Following the alleged attack, Rao remained at the scene and later contacted an acquaintance, who alerted the authorities. A police team arrived promptly and took Rao into custody. A police team arrived at the residence and took Rao into custody.

"He was reportedly undergoing treatment for depression and was distressed. He allegedly intended to take his life after the incident, which is why he attacked his wife. There appear to be no other major reasons," PTI quoted Saidulu Adavath, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Whitefield), as saying.

The couple's daughter, who is currently residing in the United States, has been informed about the incident. A case of murder has been registered, and the police are continuing a detailed investigation into the events leading up to the death of Sandya Sri.

“Rao he believed there would be no one to take care of his wife after his death. Acting on this belief, he strangled her with a towel and then attempted to end his own life. However, he later panicked and abandoned the suicide attempt,” the Indian Express reported, quoting a police officer.

65-year-old kills wife, attempts suicide

A 65-year-old man was arrested on Monday for allegedly murdering his wife and attempting to take his own life at their residence in Govindaraja Nagar, police said according to the Indian Express. The report further mentioned that Kumar attacked his 55-year-old wife, Devika, with a sharp weapon around 12:45 a.m. while she was asleep.

The couple had recently returned from a family trip to Sabarimala, after which Kumar reportedly became suspicious of his wife following a conversation she had with a driver. Frequent quarrels between the couple are said to have escalated tensions. “In a fit of rage, he attacked his wife and later attempted to end his own life,” the newspaper reported a police officer as saying.

The couple's children intervened after hearing the commotion, preventing Kumar from harming himself. The Govindarajanagar police are continuing a detailed investigation into the incident.
