Bengaluru on Wednesday evening witnessed sudden heavy rain accompanied by a hailstorm affected several areas, disrupting normal life while bringing relief from the prevailing summer heat.

According to a report by News First Prime, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued an orange alert for Bengaluru Urban, Bengaluru Rural, Kolar and Chikkaballapur districts, warning of heavy rainfall over the next three hours.

The department also forecast moderate rain and thundershowers with hail and gusty winds reaching speeds of 40-50 kmph at isolated locations.

Rainfall was reported from multiple parts of the city, including Rajajinagar, Vijayanagar and Malleswaram, where residents experienced strong showers along with gusty winds. In areas such as Shantinagar, hailstorms were reported, with large hailstones seen on the streets.

Several key areas, including Town Hall, KR Market, Corporation Circle, JC Road, Shantinagar, Lalbagh, Cubbon Park, Majestic, Mysore Bank Circle, Shivananda Circle, Vidhana Soudha and MG Road, recorded heavy rain and strong winds, leading to disruption in the movement of people and vehicles.

The downpour caused waterlogging in many localities. In Wilson Garden, an auto-rickshaw got stuck in accumulated rainwater. Similar conditions were reported in Lakkasandra and nearby areas, where roads were flooded within a short period of rainfall.

In Jayanagar, rainwater entered a metro station premises, and staff were seen manually clearing the water. The hailstorm also affected metro services during the evening rush hour, with commuters reporting long waiting times at several stations.

According to the report, tree fall incidents were also reported.
