Announcing the annual pre-monsoon maintenance to ensure runway safety during the rainy season, the airport authorities released a statement, "On 7 May 2026, both runways (09/27 and 14/32) at Mumbai Airport will be temporarily non-operational from 11:00hrs to 17:00hrs for scheduled pre-monsoon maintenance and repair work. Advisory

  • No flights will land or take off during these hours. Passengers are advised to check their flight status with airlines.
  • Airlines may reroute flights through other cities, or passengers might face cancellations. Airlines have been informed in advance to adjust schedules. Passengers should check their airline's app or the official CSMIA website for specific flight updates.

As one of the world's busiest single-runway operation hubs, CSMIA manages an average of over 1,000 air traffic movements (ATMs) per day.

The routine activity is carried out annually to maintain runway safety and ensure smooth flight operations during the upcoming monsoon season.

A post-monsoon maintenance routine is also followed, usually between October-November. During this period, the teams carry out pre-emptively inspections and fixe surface degradation brought on by the rains, among other things.
