In the aftermath of sweeping global layoffs, Oracle has revoked multiple campus placement and pre-placement offers made to students at leading Indian engineering institutes, including several IITs and NITs, a report said, citing sources.

The move follows the US technology giant's recent restructuring exercise that reportedly impacted nearly 30,000 employees globally, including a significant number in India.

Students from institutions such as National Institute of Technology Warangal, Visvesvaraya National Institute of Technology Nagpur, Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee, Indian Institute of Technology Hyderabad and Indian Institute of Technology (BHU) Varanasi are understood to be among those affected, the Moneycontrol report said.

Citing sources, the report said that the impacted freshers were informed earlier this week that their offers had been cancelled, leaving many scrambling for opportunities outside campus placements.

“I got a pre-placement offer (PPO) last year following my internship at Oracle along with 12 other interns who had joined from my college. So, I didn't appear for any other placement test during campus hiring,” a fresher from one of the NITs told Moneycontrol on condition of anonymity.

The fresher said Oracle had recruited students for application developer roles and server technology teams. However, one of the business units within the server technology vertical, linked to Oracle Health and application infrastructure, was recently shut down, triggering cancellations across the country.

“I did have a good experience working with the team at Oracle last year. I didn't see this coming. Now, I am hunting for a new job outside,” the student said.

A placement cell official at one of the affected institutes said Oracle had hired aggressively this season, offering salary packages in the Rs 35–40 lakh range.

“At our college, three offers were revoked. Oracle got back saying they had undergone a restructuring and had closed some of their business units that they had hired for. They tried but couldn't accommodate those students in other teams,” the official was quoted as saying in the report.

Several affected graduates have since taken to LinkedIn seeking new opportunities. Among them was Thansen Lahare of IIT (BHU) Varanasi, who said his offer to join Oracle as a Member of Technical Staff was revoked just weeks before onboarding.

Oracle has not publicly commented on the development.
