Amazon on Thursday denied claims that it would be cutting jobs across its Amazon Web Services, retail and human resources departments, as per a statement from the company's spokesperson.
"These reports are false and not based in fact," the report said.
This development came after several media outlets reported on the online retailing giant implementing a fresh round of mass layoffs across these aforementioned departments. The reports cited posts made on the job forum Blind which were sourced by a Chinese tech portal who reported on the layoffs. The posts suggested that the proposed cuts would target white-collar roles at levels L5 to L7, along with select teams in China.
This news is part of an emerging trend where companies have implemented mass layoffs, citing "restructuring" and automating job roles with AI. NDTV Profit recounts notable layoffs that have been instituted so far in 2026.
Disney- 1,000 Jobs
The media giant that owns popular and globally recognised intellectual properties such Mickey Mouse, Star Wars and Marvel Studios is set to cut out 1,000 jobs as the firm's new chief executive officer Josh D'amaro joins the company on Thursday.
Sony
The company will undertake hundreds of layoffs across its film, television and corporate divisions in the coming months as part of a broader restructuring effort, as per a memo from CEO Ravi Ahuja.
Oracle - 30,000 Jobs
Tech company Oracle, which currently specialises in providing cloud computing infrastructure to companies that rely on AI announced the biggest single-day layoff in the history of tech companies by cutting 30,000 jobs, citing "organisational restructuring".
Amazon - 16,000 Jobs
Amazon did away with 16,000 jobs on a global scale on Jan 28. This was a part of its second prominent round of layoffs within a span of three months due to the e-commerce giant restructuring itself after the pandemic. This was in addition to a round of layoffs in its Robotics division in March.

Dell- 11,000 Jobs
Dell laid off a total of 11,000 jobs In 2026, saying that it was driving down external hiring as a part of its cost management measures.
Block - 4,000 Jobs
Jack Dorsey's tech company that owns applications like Square, CashApp and Tidal cited "intelligence tools" as its reason to do away with 4,000 jobs, which made up 40% of its workforce.
Meta - Over 2,000 Jobs
Meta let go of close to 1,500 roles or 10% of its Reality Labs division as a part of its Metaverse and wearable related restructuring in January, It further laid off 700-1,000 employees across various divisions in March.
ASML Holdings - 1,700 Jobs
The semiconductor company did away 1,700 roles in its management and support divisions citing restructuring to reduce bureaucracy and streamline their operations.
Atlassian - 1,600 Jobs
The Mike Cannon-Brookes led software firm got rid of 1,600 jobs or a 10th of its global workforce. "It would be disingenuous to pretend AI doesn't change the mix of skills we need or the number of roles required in certain areas," Cannon-Brookes was quoted as saying. "It does."
Ericsson - 1,900 Jobs
Sweden-based Telecommunications vendor Ericsson announced 1,900 job cuts or 20% of the local workforce in Sweden citing slow down in 5G spending in North America.
Epic Games - Over 1,000 Jobs
Epic Games laid off more than 1,000 employees in March citing a decrease in player engagement for its online multiplayer game Fortnite, financial losses and high operating costs.
Ebay - 800 Employees
The online marketplace laid off 800 employees in February or 6% of its workforce in its efforts to increase its investment in AI technology.
Flipkart - 500 Employees
The e-marketplace fired close to 500 employees or 4% of its workforce citing unsatisfactory performance reviews in March amid restructuring efforts prior to a likely IPO as per reports.
Zupee - 200 Employees
The company laid off 200 of its employees or 40% of its workforce in January after the centre enforced a ban on real-money gaming.
Spotify - 15 Employees
The music streaming company let go of 15 employees from its podcasting division in order to streamline operations.
