Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman presented the Union Budget 2025-26 on Saturday, Feb. 1, making key announcements to aid economic growth. As the finance minister began her Budget speech at the Parliament, memes started flooding social media.
From tax relief for the middle class to the many announcements made for poll-bound Bihar, memesters left no stone unturned to give the Union Budget a light-hearted twist.
Here is a look at what the internet had to say about Union Budget 2025-26:
The 2025 Budget came as a breath of fresh air for the middle class, who had long seen little to no relief in previous years. Sitharaman announced that individuals earning up to Rs 12 lakh would be exempt from income tax.
For the salaried class, there will be no income tax for earnings up to Rs 12.75 lakh per annum, thanks to the standard deduction of Rs 75,000.
However, no relief has been provided under the old tax regime. Sitharaman said that she will table a new Income Tax Bill next week to simplify the taxpaying process.
The middle class' reaction to Budget 2025 has been overwhelming, a sentiment that memers on the internet captured perfectly.
Under the new tax slabs in the New Tax Regime, those earning more than Rs 12 lakh will have to pay tax at the rate of 15%. For salaried people, those earning more than Rs 12.75 lakh will have to pay 15% income tax.
The finance minister also announced several schemes for poll-bound Bihar, including construction of new airports. A new Makhana Board will also be established in the state
The government will also establish a national institute of food technology, management in Bihar to bolster food processing activity. Bihar is set to undergo Assembly Elections later this year.
Apart from the reduction in taxes and mega schemes for Bihar, Budget 2025 initiated reforms in six domains including taxation, urban development, mining, financial sector, power and regulatory reforms.
