Arun Jaitley today resumed duty as Minister for Finance and Corporate Affairs after a three-month hiatus.
President Ram Nath Kovind, acting on the advice of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, reassigned the portfolios of finance and corporate affairs to Jaitley, the government said in a statement today.
Jaitley, 65, underwent a renal transplant surgery on May 14. Piyush Goyal, the minister for railways and coal, was allocated the finance portfolio as an additional charge. In April, Jaitley had tweeted that he will work from a “controlled environment at home” before his surgery was announced.
While Goyal continued work on GST implementation and bank reforms to curb bad loans, Jaitley had remained active via social media writing blog posts on several political and economic issues.
