A court in Hyderabad's Nampally has granted regular bail to actor Allu Arjun in connection to the case of fatal stampede that broke out during the screening of Pushpa 2: The Rule at the Sandhya Theatre.
Arjun has been granted bail on two sureties bond of worth Rs 50,000 each, NDTV reported.
The actor was arrested on Dec. 13 in connection with the incident and released from the jail on Dec. 14 after the Telangana High Court granted him interim bail for four weeks, which was to end on Jan. 10.
Ashok Reddy, advocate for Arjun, told news agency PTI that the actor has to appear before the investigating officer on Sunday.
A 35-year-old woman died and her eight-year-old son was hospitalised due to asphyxiation after a large crowd gathered at Sandhya Theatre during the premiere show of Pushpa 2 on the night of Dec. 4 to catch a glimpse of the superstar.
On Dec. 5, the city police registered a case against the actor, his security team and the theatre management under Sections 105 and 118 (1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita at Chikkadpally police station, based on a complaint lodged by the deceased woman's family, PTI reported. During the investigation, police arrested three individuals: one of the theatre's owners, its senior manager and the lower balcony in-charge.
Meanwhile, Pushpa 2 has become the fastest Indian movie to enter the Rs 1,000-crore club. The Sukumar directorial is a sequel to the 2021 Telugu blockbuster Pushpa: The Rise. The film has been also dubbed in Hindi, Tamil, Kannada, Bengali and Malayalam, and has emerged as one of the biggest blockbusters of 2024.
