Stock markets in India – BSE (formerly Bombay Stock Exchange) and the National Stock Exchange (NSE) – will remain closed on Monday, March 31 to mark the Eid-ul-Fitr celebration. Trading in equity derivatives, securities lending and borrowing (SLB), currency derivatives, and electronic gold receipts (EGR) will be unavailable on the day.
The Indian stock market operates on a five-day workweek, remaining closed on Saturdays and Sundays. Trading activities are also suspended on public holidays and festivals, as announced in the official calendar at the start of the year.
These holidays allow traders to celebrate without concerns about market fluctuations. Investors and traders are advised to plan their transactions accordingly.
With Mar. 29 (Saturday) and Mar. 30 (Sunday) already holidays, traders will get an extended break as the markets are scheduled to remain closed for Eid-ul-Fitr on Monday, March 31.
Trading will resume as usual on Tuesday, April 1.

The BSE and NSE follow a standard schedule from Monday to Friday, with equity trading hours from 9:15 am to 3:30 pm IST. Trading is suspended on weekends and official holidays. Equity trading occurs on weekdays, excluding Saturdays, Sundays, and declared holidays.

B) Regular trading session
Normal / Limited Physical Market Open: 09:15 a.m.
Normal / Limited Physical Market Close: 03:30 p.m.
C) Closing Session
The Closing Session is held between 03:40 p.m. hrs and 04:00 p.m.
D) Block Deal Session Timings
Morning Window: This window shall operate between 08:45 a.m. to 09:00 a.m.
Afternoon Window: This window shall operate between 02:05 p.m. to 2:20 p.m.
Note: The Exchange may, however, close the market on days other than the above scheduled holidays or may open the market on days originally declared as holidays. The Exchange may also extend, advance or reduce trading hours when it deems fit and necessary.
Eid Ul-Fitr 2025: Date And Significance
Eid Ul-Fitr, one of the most significant Islamic festivals, marks the end of Ramadan month for Muslims. Muslims across the world observe fasting from dusk till dawn for 30 days during Ramzan. The holy month concludes with Eid ul-Fitr celebrations.
This year Eid will be celebrated on March 31. On Sunday, the crescent was sighted in various Indian states, confirming the celebration of Eid-ul-Fitr on Monday.
Stock Market Highlights: March 28
The Nifty snapped its five-month losing streak and the Sensex paused its three-month declining spree even as the benchmark equity indices ended with losses on Friday.
The NSE Nifty 50 ended 72.60 points or 0.31% lower at 23,519.35, while the BSE Sensex closed 191.51 points or 0.25% down at 77,414.92. During the day, Nifty fell as much as 0.60% to 23,450.20, while the Sensex fell 0.54% to 77,185.62.
On a monthly basis, the Nifty ended 6.30% higher, while the Sensex closed 5.76% up. The indices also ended the week in a positive this week, with Nifty gaining over 0.77% and Sensex rising over 0.60%.
The indices also ended this financial year in positive, with Nifty rising over 6.99% in the financial year 2025 and Sensex rising over 6.78%. This is the second consecutive year that Nifty has ended in the positive after seeing an over 10% recovery from its lowest point in fiscal 2025.
