Amit Banerji, the founder, chairman and chief executive officer of managed workspace provider Table Space, died after suffering from a heart attack, reports said on Monday. He was 45.
“It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Mr Amit Banerji... His impact on the company, its people and the industry will be lasting," Table Space said in a statement, as per the reports.
Banerji, along with Karan Chopra, had launched Table Space in 2017. Prior to launching the startup, he worked with Accenture for 13 years, and last served as its managing director of corporate real estate in India.
Based in Bengaluru, Banerji was a renowned name in the startup ecosystem. His expertise was in real estate economics, negotiations and asset management, among other areas.
In terms of education, Banerji held a B Tech in Computer Science degree. He pursued the programme at the Punjab Technical University between 1998 and 2002.
Table Space, under his leadership as the CEO, emerged as a key player in the segment it operates in. The unlisted company logged a 36% jump in revenue in fiscal 2024 to Rs 918 crore in fiscal 2024, and the net profit in the same period rose by 13% to Rs 52 crore, The Arc reported.
Reports had, last year, said that the co-working space provider was also looking to launch an initial public offering in 2025. The company was aiming at a valuation of $2.5 billion, or approximately Rs 21,000 crore, reports had said.
Banerji's death comes in the backdrop of the untimely demise of a number of startup leaders, including Epigamia Co-Founder Rohan Mirchandani who passed away at the age of 42 last year, Good Capital Co-Founder Rohan Malhotra who died aged 44 last year, and Pepperfry Co-Founder Ambareesh Murty who passed away at the age of 51 in 2023.
