(Bloomberg) -- Salim Ismail, who led Yahoo! Inc.’s internal incubator Brickhouse, is joining Miami-based venture capital company Rokk3r Fuel as a general partner.
Ismail was also behind news aggregation startup Angstro, which he sold to Google Inc. in 2010, Rokk3r said Wednesday in a statement. Rokk3r Fuel started in March and includes Jeff Ransdell, a former managing director with Bank of America Corp.’s Merrill Lynch unit, and software entrepreneur Nabyl Charania.
Florida’s venture capital scene has emerged from relative obscurity in recent years with the help of Magic Leap Inc., a $4.5 billion augmented-reality startup. Still, the state remains a relatively small market compared with the size of its economy.
Ismail is chairman of the Fastrack Institute in Miami and founder of ExO Works, a consulting business, according to the statement. He is also founding executive director of Singularity University, a Silicon Valley-based think tank and business incubator.
