Reliance Jio Tops Subscriber Additions In February: TRAI Data

Reliance Jio Infocomm Ltd. and Bharti Airtel Ltd. net added mobile subscribers in January, while Vodafone Idea Ltd. and Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd. continued to report net-user losses, according to data released by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India on Thursday.

Jio led the additions during the month with a net gain of approximately 17.7 lakh users, followed by Airtel, which added 15.9 lakh subscribers. Vodafone Idea lost 20,720 users, while BSNL lost 5.66 lakh.

Wireless Broadband Market Share

As of Feb. 28, Jio continued to lead the wireless broadband market, followed by Airtel, Vodafone Idea, BSNL and IBus Virtual Network Services Pvt.

Jio led the pack with its 46.5 crore subscriber base, while Airtel followed with 28 crore subscribers. Vodafone Idea holds steady at the 12.5 crore mark.

Together, these five providers accounted for 99.98% of the wireless broadband market in India.

Overall Subscriber Base, Market Share

Total wireless subscribers increased 0.24% from 115.1 crore at the end of January 2025 to 115.4 crore at the end of February 2025.

Mobile subscription in urban areas increased to 62.8 crore and wireless subscription in rural areas rose to 52.6 crore as of February 2025.

The mobile teledensity in India increased from 81.65% at the end of January 2025 to 81.79% at the end of February 2025.
