Quikr to Launch Separate Sites for Jobs, Cars, Real Estate

Classifieds site Quikr will launch dedicated verticals for jobs, cars, real estate, and services, the company told NDTV. The company however did not share the timeline for the launch.

"The right way to look at Quikr would be - Quikr is the mothership built over the last 6 odd years... and now this mothership is in the process of launching big boats in individual areas like real estate, jobs, services and cars where we will basically build verticals within our company which will go very deep in these categories," said Pranay Chulet, founder and CEO of Quikr.

"In case of cars we have launched special reports for used cars, in case of houses we are beginning to post more and more listings with images and so on. So essentially we are handholding our consumers or our users more as they transact with us in these categories."

Quikr operates on a marketplace platform, which gets the buyer and the seller in contact with each other for a variety of transactions that encompasses buying, selling and renting of property and other goods and services. It gets 3 crore unique or new visitors every month on its site, the company said.

"Quikr is a cross classified platform as most people know, it's the largest cross classified platform in the country, our business cuts across things ranging from people trading with each other, these are used goods or new goods where people are buying and selling each others'...TVs and phones, household furniture etc."

"C-to-C (consumer to consumer) transactions is one big part of our business, real estate is another big category for us, cars is another big one, jobs-blue collar jobs is really big for us," Mr Chulet said.

The buyer and the seller meet online, but the transactions mostly take place offline, Quikr said.

"If you look at categories like real estate or jobs, I don't anytime soon you'll have pure online transactions, people do need to make their site visits or met the candidates and so on."

Revenue Model

Although the platform can be used free, it offers premium listings and prospective leads to clients for a fee. Quikr gets 1 lakh paying customers every month, Mr Chulet said. The company wants to keep the premium services optional only and allow the site to run as a free platform.

"Some of them (customers) pay us and some of them are still getting to know Quikr and its value so they first start using us typically for free and then over time they realise they are getting so many customers they would like to get even more by paying us," Mr Chulet said.

Quikr's revenue has grown four times in the last year, he added.
