Electrical equipment maker Havells India has earmarked a portion of its IT budget for infrastructure and development of e-commerce, chairman and managing director Anil Rai Gupta told NDTV. However, he did not disclose any figures.
"E commerce is definitely going to be another channel for selling products and it depends upon business to business, especially in the consumer durables segment, right now we see a lot of traction in the e commerce segment in the electronics business," Mr Gupta said.
Havells manufactures switchgears, household electronic appliances, cables, lightings and fixtures.
While fans continue to lead the growth for the company, it expects its new range of household appliances to overtake the fan business' growth.
"Fans have definitely been a growth factor for us but we have also introduced newer appliances like water heater and domestic appliances. Obviously this is a new business so growth will be faster there," Mr Gupta said.
Growth will be driven by rural demand with disposable and standard of living going up there, Havells said. "The demand will definitely come at a faster pace in the rural and the Tier 2, Tier 3 towns."
The Havells stock ended marginally higher at Rs 271.10 on Monday, in line with the broader Sensex and the Nifty.
