GSM subscriber base in India rose marginally to 69.48 crore in December with the addition of 68 lakh users, according to the Cellular Operators Association of India (COAI).

The number of subscribers stood at 68.8 crore at the end of November, the industry body said.

GSM refers to the global system for mobile communications.

Market leader Bharti Airtel added 18.08 lakh users to take its total to 19.84 crore. The company had a market share of 28.55 per cent.

The biggest addition of 23.73 lakh users was for Vodafone - the second-largest operator. It had a base of 16.04 crore and a market share of 23.09 per cent, COAI said.

Idea Cellular got 2.71 lakh new subscribers and increasedits total to 12.86 crore. Its share was 18.52 per cent.

Aircel had 16.28 lakh new users and a total of 6.69 crore.

Uninor added 4.1 lakh users and its user base at the end of December stood at 3.27 crore, COAI said.

Videocon had 2.99 lakh new users and a total of 39.69 lakh, while state-run MTNL added 10,907 users to take its total to 34.63 lakh.
