New York: Pharmaceuticals tycoon Dilip Shanghvi has surpassed Mukesh Ambani as the world's richest Indian with a net worth of $21.5 billion (Rs 1.33 lakh crore at 1 dollar = 62 rupees) - within two days of the Reliance Industries chief being ranked India's wealthiest for the 8th straight year.

According to a 'real time' update from business magazine Forbes, known for its annual rich lists, Sun Pharma Group's Mr Shanghvi was ranked the richest Indian, followed by Mukesh Ambani and tech czar Azim Premji at the second and third positions, respectively.
On the global rich list, Mr Shanghvi on Wednesday moved up to the 37th position while Mr Ambani slipped to the 43rd spot.
Earlier on Monday, Forbes had released its annual Rich List for 2015, wherein Mr Ambani was ranked 39th - the highest among Indians - while Mr Shanghvi was ranked 44th.
Mr Premji was ranked 48th on that list, from which he has moved up one place now.
Mr Shanghvi's net worth on Wednesday stood at $21.5 billion, following a sharp rally in share prices of his group companies, while that of Mr Ambani was at $20.4 billion (Rs 1.26 lakh crore).
The Annual Rich List had put Mr Ambani's wealth at $21 billion, or Rs 1.3 lakh crore, based on the share prices and exchange rates of February 13.
Mr Ambani has been ranked as richest Indian for eight consecutive years now on the Forbes' annual rich lists, even as his ranking has come down sharply from among top ten positions globally earlier.
