The Union government plans to create additional infrastructure in the five Indian Institute of Technology institutions started after 2014 in order to facilitate the education of 6,500 more students, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said on Saturday.
Hostel amenities and other infrastructure capacities in IIT Patna are also set to be expanded, she said while presenting the Union Budget 2025–26 in the Lok Sabha.
The finance minister also said the total number of students in the 23 IITs more than doubled from 65,000 to 1.35 lakh in the past 10 years.
