US President Donald Trump on Thursday imposed a series of extensive tariffs on India and several countries, noting that unfair trade policies have significantly hurt the US economy.

"The trading relationship between the United States and its trading partners has become highly unbalanced, particularly in recent years," he said at the event labelled 'Liberation Day'.

During an address at the White House, Trump blamed trade deficits for weakening US domestic manufacturing, disrupting supply chains, among other issues. He said that these problems in the US economy stems from imbalanced trade relationships, with unfair tariffs.
