Iranian airstrikes have inflicted significantly greater damage on US military infrastructure in West Asia than publicly acknowledged, with at least 228 structures and equipment hit since the conflict began, according to an analysis by The Washington Post.

The report, based on more than 100 high-resolution satellite images released by Iranian sources and verified with independent imagery, found that 217 structures and 11 pieces of equipment were damaged or destroyed across 15 US military sites. Targets included hangars, barracks, fuel depots, aircraft, and critical radar and communication systems.

Experts reviewing the imagery told The Washington Post that the strikes appeared highly precise, indicating Iran's ability to accurately hit key military infrastructure. Some of the impacted facilities, such as accommodation blocks, dining halls, and gyms, suggest possible intent to cause casualties.

Among the hardest-hit locations were bases in Kuwait and Bahrain, including Camp Arifjan and Ali al-Salem Air Base. Significant damage was also recorded at the US Navy's 5th Fleet headquarters. A US official, cited in the report, described the damage at one naval support base as extensive, with operations subsequently relocated.

The scale of the attacks has also affected troop deployment. US commanders reportedly reduced personnel presence at several high-risk bases early in the conflict, moving troops to safer locations.

Since the war began on February 28, seven US service members have been killed, six in Kuwait and one in Saudi Arabia, while more than 400 have been injured, according to US officials. Most have returned to duty, though at least 12 sustained serious injuries.

The findings point to a shift in modern warfare, with drones and precision-guided weapons playing a growing role. Some assessments suggest the US military may have underestimated Iran's capabilities and the evolving threat landscape.

However, US officials have downplayed the broader operational impact, noting that damage assessments are complex and may not directly translate into reduced combat effectiveness. They added that a clearer picture will emerge once the conflict concludes.

Even so, the strikes have forced US planners to reassess how to defend bases and personnel in an increasingly transparent and high-risk battlefield.
