Rajasthan's Ganganagar sizzled at a scorching 45.8 degrees Celsius on May 15, making it the hottest place in India, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Friday. The temperature was based on data collected at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday.

Besides Rajasthan, several states like Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh also faced heatwave conditions as temperatures crossed 40 degrees Celsius in many cities. At least five cities of Rajasthan recorded temperatures above 44 degrees Celsius, significantly higher than the normal levels during this period of the year.
