A Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra user claimed that when they attempted to return the product as it did not meet their expectations, the company's customer service offered them a $250 discount and asked them to keep the device instead of returning it.
The customer made a post on Reddit sharing their experience along with a screenshot of the exchange, with some users theorising that it may be due to customer complaints from the device's display panel.
Samsung Galaxy S26 has a 'privacy display' feature which is meant to deter other from peeking into the phone from off-angles. In practice, this lead to users complaining due to low brightness on the display screen.
The user argued that Samsung was not offering $250 refunds for their previous models, the S25U or S24U, which did not have these complaints.
Another user stated that $250 may be a small portion of the actual price point the phone was purchased at, making it a comparitively negligible discount.
"Depends on what OP (original poster) paid for it. If OP paid MSRP (manufacturer's suggested retail price), it's not even small, but almost nothing. For example, the MSRP in Germany is 1450€. You can get the S26 Ultra new for 1120€ in non-Samsung Shops. So 250€ off MSRP would still not be a good deal," the user said.

Another user chimed in to add to the point, saying that the most they were offered to keep their device was $50. Other users also noted that they were offered a 10% refund by Samsung's customer care to keep their smartphone when they attempted to return it.
"I just did it. You go to your order page return options contact us> start a chat > tell them you are dissatisfied with the phone and want to know my return options... They confirm billing address.. then offer 10% refund instead of return. Since I did a trade in my total cost was only 522 dollars for S26U 256gb. Offered me 52.20 and I accepted," the user said.
