Apple's next generation iPhone 18 Pro may come with a higher price tag as a sharp rise in memory costs adds to the company's component expenses ahead of the device's expected launch.

According to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, Apple is considering price increases for some upcoming iPhone models as the cost of key components, including memory chips, continues to rise. Apple has not announced the iPhone 18 lineup or revealed its pricing and any final decision on a price increase remains unclear.

Rising Memory Prices Add To Apple's Costs

A recent analysis by market research firm TrendForce points to the growing pressure on smartphone makers. The firm estimates that the component cost of the 256GB iPhone 18 Pro could be 38% higher than that of its 2025 predecessor.

The increase is largely linked to rising memory prices. TrendForce estimates that memory could account for around 34% of the iPhone 18 Pro's total component cost in the third quarter of 2026, compared with roughly 10% a year earlier.

The rise in memory prices is not limited to Apple and has affected wider consumer electronics industry.

Will Apple Pass The Cost On To Buyers?

Apple could choose to absorb part of the higher component costs, which would put prssure on its profit margins, or pass some of the increase on to consumers through higher prices. TrendForce said Apple may consider accepting lower margins to keep its products competitively priced and protect shipment volumes. The company could also make changes to the pricing of older iPhone models.
