Apple is planning to launch a new iCloud-based service for event invites, according to Mark Gurman of Bloomberg. The service—codenamed "Confetti"—could be launched as early as this week, Gurman noted in his Power On newsletter.
What Is Apple Confetti?
According to Gurman, the service will give users a “new way to invite people to parties, functions, and meetings.” He did not specify if this feature would be integrated into an already-existing software, like Calendar, or offered as a standalone app.
Notably, the report claims that Apple has been working for years to update the Calendar app, and this is only the first step in that process.
Gurman also noted that the new Confetti rollout is connected to iOS 18.3, which started making its way to iPhone and iPad owners late last month. This implies that the service might be turned on at any time. Other than that, there aren't many details.
Confetti: Helping Users Organise In-Person Events And Meetings
Earlier, the new invites service was reportedly found in iOS 18.3 beta code. Based on the analysis of the code, it appeared that the app is made to assist users in planning meetings and in-person events. The app will probably have some more functionality, even if Apple's Calendar app can already be used for organising meetings, etc.
According to the code, there will be a web version on iCloud.com, as well as integration with iCloud. Additionally, GroupKit, a new iOS 18 daemon that controls database models for groups of individuals, is integrated with the new app.
The app will display a list of those who have been invited to an event created and have confirmed their participation. The app is expected to offer a more creative interface than the Calendar app's present invite feature.
