Google has unveiled a new functionality that enables travelers to seek the whereabouts of misplaced luggage directly to airlines via its Find Hub tracking system. This feature operates using small tracking devices inserted into the luggage, which can display a bag's position on an Android-supported mobile application.

The innovative 'share item location' option allows users to create a secure link from the 'Find Hub' app that reveals the live location of a bag fitted with the compatible tracking device. This can subsequently be shared with the airlines managing the baggage retrieval.

Control over privacy and safety

Keeping tabs on your bags' whereabouts is safe. 'Find Hub' does not provide updates unless you request for it. A bag tracking link is generated only when you choose to create one manually. It is a deliberate action every single time.

These links are not permanent. They automatically become invalid after seven days or as soon as your luggage is returned to you. If you want, you can instantly stop sharing in the Find Hub app, ensuring you have total control over your privacy.

Participating Airlines

Many airlines are now setting up systems to accept secure tracking links, making it easier to locate the lost baggage in real time. Once you use Find Hub to generate a link, you can share it with the airline so that the ground staff can see the bag's precise location, speeding up the process of returning your belongings.

Currently, the airlines participating in this programme include Ajet, Air India, Austrian Airlines, Brussels Airlines, China Airlines, Lufthansa, Lufthansa City, Saudia, Scandinavian Airlines, Swiss International Air Lines, and Turkish Airlines.
