FC Goa fought back to hold Mohun Bagan Super Giant to a 1-1 draw at the Fatorda Stadium on Saturday, May 9, a result that could dramatically reshape the Indian Super League title race with just a handful of matches left to play this season.

With the match ending level, Mohun Bagan were left to rue a missed opportunity after surrendering a second-half lead in Goa. Jamie Maclaren had handed the Mariners the breakthrough in the 55th minute after Sandesh Jhingan let the ball slip under his foot, allowing the Australian striker a clear run at goal.

Here's a look at how the 32-year-old Mohun Bagan striker ruthlessly punished Jhingan's error.

But FC Goa responded 12 minutes later through Ronney Willson in bizarre fashion. His curled delivery into the area deceived Vishal Kaith completely, looping over the Mohun Bagan goalkeeper and into the net to restore parity at Fatorda.

A draw moves Mohun Bagan to 21 points from 10 matches, level with East Bengal at the top of the standings.

Jamshedpur FC's position in the title race also took a major hit on Saturday as Bengaluru FC handed the Men of Steel their first home defeat of the season. Ryan Williams' first-half strike secured a 1-0 win for Bengaluru at the JRD Tata Sports Complex, leaving Jamshedpur stuck on 21 points after 12 matches.

With only one league fixture remaining for JFC, the title is now effectively out of their hands despite the three-way tie at the top.

Here's a look at Williams' strike that ended Jamshedpur's unbeaten home run.

The outcome effectively sharpens the focus on the Kolkata clubs. East Bengal and Mohun Bagan now sit tied at the summit with three matches remaining each, setting up a potential title-decider in the penultimate round of the season when these two sides meet at the Salt Lake Stadium on May 17.

East Bengal hold the advantage in this race, courtesy their superior goal difference of +18, the best in the league this season.

For FC Goa, however, this draw effectively puts them out of the title race. The Gaurs move to 20 points after 12 matches, meaning they can only finish with a maximum of 23 points from their 13-game campaign. With both East Bengal and Mohun Bagan already on 21 and holding three games in hand, Goa's chances of lifting the title this season seem highly unlikely.

Mohun Bagan will also feel the pressure of a missed chance after leading away from home and failing to close out the contest. In a season defined by fine margins, the dropped points at Fatorda could yet prove decisive in the final standings.

Here's how the ISL 2025-26 points table stands following Saturday's fixtures in the league.
