Rohit Sharma's blistering 84 off 44 balls powered the Mumbai Indians to a six-wicket win over Lucknow Super Giants in Match 47 of the Indian Premier League 2026 at the Wankhede Stadium on Monday.
Returning after a five-match injury layoff, the veteran opener was in sublime touch, smashing six fours and seven sixes. It is his second half-century of the season following the innings of 78 against Kolkata Knight Riders in Mumbai's tournament opener. He shared a match-defining 143-run opening stand with Ryan Rickelton, who hammered 83 off just 32 balls, laying the perfect platform for Mumbai's successful chase of 229. Rohit's efforts were acknowledged as the spectators gave him a loud and standing ovation when he made his way back to the pavilion.
Earlier, Mumbai's stand-in skipper Suryakumar Yadav, leading in the absence of Hardik Pandya due to illness, won the toss and opted to field. Lucknow posted an imposing 228/5, courtesy of a scintillating half-century from Nicholas Pooran. Despite the win, both teams remain unchanged on the points table. Mumbai, with three wins from 10 matches, stay ninth, while Lucknow, with just two wins in nine games, sit at the bottom.
